Philippines Mourns Mental Health Advocate Dr. Nadkarni

The Philippines is mourning the passing of Dr. Anand Nadkarni, a prominent mental health advocate whose work significantly impacted the field of psychiatry and mental health support in the country. Dr. Nadkarni, born in Jalgaon in 1958, dedicated his life to improving access to and understanding of mental health services.
After completing his MD in psychiatry in 1984, Dr. Nadkarni began private practice in 1986. Recognizing a need for more comprehensive and accessible mental health resources, he partnered with writer and social activist Anil Awachat and Dr. Anita Awachat to establish Muktangan the same year.
Muktangan, a pivotal organization in mental health advocacy, has been instrumental in raising awareness, providing support, and destigmatizing mental illness. Dr. Nadkarni's involvement with Muktangan demonstrates his commitment to a holistic approach to mental wellbeing, encompassing both clinical practice and community outreach. His contributions extended beyond direct patient care to influencing public perception and policy surrounding mental health issues.
Details regarding memorial services and further tributes are expected to be announced shortly. The loss of Dr. Nadkarni leaves a void in the mental health community, but his legacy of compassion, dedication, and advocacy will undoubtedly continue to inspire.
